Offered as a new option for the PS one game console, the LCD Screen (for PS one) will enable gameplay without the need for a full-size television, allowing consumers to share the game experience with friends and family when on vacation, on road trips or even on business trips. All of a fan's favorite games, and any of the more than 1,100 PlayStation® titles, can now go just about anywhere PlayStation fans do. Unlike like less robust LCD panels, the LCD Screen (for PS one) delivers outstanding brightness (650 Candela (cd/m2) and high-definition features by receiving the video signal directly from PS one through the RGB input. The LCD Screen (for PS one) also provides superior stereo sound through 40mm x 28mm oval 1.0W, built-in stereo speakers.
"The LCD Screen (for PS one) will enhance PS one's capabilities to serve as a compact entertainment system that adapts to individual gamers' needs," said Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. "We are taking the PlayStation brand to a new level of gaming by giving our consumers the pure enjoyment of their favorite PlayStation games outside of the home."
Consumers will be able to purchase the LCD Screen (for PS one) by itself for their existing PS one console for the suggested retail price of $129. The LCD Screen (for PS one) will also be offered as a bundle through the PS one® COMBO for a discounted, suggested retail price of $199 for a limited time beginning in early 2002.
The PS one LCD Screen Combo Package includes: -- PS one console -- (1) DUALSHOCK™ analog controller -- (1) 5" (measured diagonally) crisp resolution LCD Screen (adjustable brightness and sharpness) -- stereo sound built-in speakers -- (2) mounting screws -- AC Adapter -- Instruction manual.
The LCD screen will provide additional entertainment functions for users. A PS one car adapter (sold separately) will be available for a limited time in early 2002 and will enable gamers to use their PS one consoles in automobiles. When the LCD screen is attached to the PS one console, gamers will have the option to plug in a personal headset (sold separately) and enjoy their games without the worry of disturbing others. Additionally, the LCD screen's AV Multi Out connection will give users the ability to plug in camcorders to enjoy playback of family videos.
