Columbia Records & Legacy Recordings Release Box Set to Coincide With PBS Series, 'Freedom: A History of US'
"Freedom: Songs From The Heart of America" is a new 3-CD box set which will be the musical companion to the upcoming TV series "Freedom: A History of US," which premieres on PBS in January 2003. The 3-CD, 67-song package arrives in stores December 10, 2002.
"Freedom: Songs From The Heart of America" will feature a combination of songs that appear in the "Freedom" PBS series plus additional songs inspired by the narrative of the series. The selection of blues, folk, country, jazz, folk, gospel and rock songs are performed by such artists as Louis Armstrong, Leonard Bernstein, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Woody & Arlo Guthrie, Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, Leadbelly, Keb' Mo', Willie Nelson, Pete Seeger, Simon & Garfunkel, Sly & The Family Stone, Nina Simone, Kate Smith, Bruce Springsteen, and many more.
