Think a desktop is the only way to get advanced entertainment functions in a PC? Think again. The new VAIO® PCG-GRT190G is Sony's first notebook PC with Giga Pocket™ TV tuner and personal video recorder functionality.

Users can watch TV in style on the PC's 16.1-inch UXGA display with Sony's new XBRITE™ technology. The display technology, exclusive to select Sony notebooks, ensures crisp, vivid TV viewing and DVD playback. With Giga Pocket, users can not only watch live TV but also record their favorite programs to watch later. Using the new notebook's analog inputs, Giga Pocket can also be used to convert personal analog content such as VHS or Hi 8™ video tapes to the digital domain for painless editing and DVD creation.

Making a DVD is as easy as a single click using Sony's own Click to DVD™ software and the unit's dual format DVD+/=RW drive. The notebook's DVD recordable drive allows users to record and play back four of the most popular types of DVD media -- DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW -- giving them the utmost in flexibility and compatibility with the various DVD playback devices.

"This is one entertainment center that does not require a lot of space," said Mike Abary, director of VAIO notebook marketing for Sony Electronics' IT Products Division. "With the GRT, users can have a high-quality multimedia experience in any room of the house."

The power of the new notebook's entertainment capabilities extend beyond the room in which it resides. It can also act as a home entertainment server for PCs in the house over a wired or wireless network with VAIO Media™ software, available on all VAIO PCs. Using the VAIO Media networking interface, any PC running the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system can receive digital video, photo or music content from the server. And with the addition of Sony's RoomLink™ network media receiver (sold separately), a home theater system can be part of the home entertainment network.

The unit comes with Sony's complement of photo and music management and video editing software as well as a variety of ports, including USB 2.0 and the i.LINK (IEEE 1394) digital interface, with which to connect to a universe of compatible digital devices.

Available next month for about $2,500 at select retail outlets, the VAIO GRT190G notebook is one of a series of full sized notebook offerings from Sony this summer. Configurable options for the GRT series of notebooks can be found at www.sonystyle.com .
