Sony Pictures Mobile announced its latest mobile gaming title, "NYT Word Challenge," today at CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association Wireless 2004) in association with NYTimes.com. Dedicated wordsmiths and casual gaming fans alike will soon be able to download the "NYT Word Challenge" game and play whenever they want, wherever they go.

This new mobile word game aims to test people's knowledge and challenges players to engage in the masterful wordplay inspired by The New York Times. In this single-player game, users link the letter tiles on screen to form words, build bonus points using magical tiles and avoid special obstacles within the word scramble.

"We are very excited to join with NYTimes.com to bring this title to mobile phone users who love a good word challenge," said Rio Caraeff, vice president of wireless services for Sony Pictures Digital Networks. "The launch of 'NYT Word Challenge' furthers our commitment to delivering the highest quality in branded casual game play to consumers."

Available for download in April, "NYT Word Challenge" will be distributed across all of Sony Pictures Mobile's U.S. carrier partners and available on a wide variety of JAVA and BREW™ handsets.

"The introduction of 'NYT Word Challenge' provides us a great opportunity to expand our offerings available for the mobile market," said Catherine Levene, vice president of product, business development and strategy, New York Times Digital. "We are pleased to be working with Sony Pictures Mobile to provide this fun and intelligent word play game."
