Nor-tech today announced that it will OEM Sony's Advanced Intelligent Tapeā„¢ (AIT) drives for use in its Voyageur brand servers.

With a focus on custom built solutions, Nor-tech selected AIT tape storage products because of the vast range of capacities, performance, and price points available from a single format. This variety within a standard format enables Nor-tech to meet each customer's specific needs, while simultaneously simplifying the product line.

"Nor-Tech has worked with many different tape companies in the past and I am pleased to announce we've consolidated our offering and are moving to a strategic collaboration with Sony. Their product quality is second to none and they have the best customer service in the business," said David Bollig, CEO of Nor-tech. "Not only do we recommend AIT to our customers, but we also use it to perform our backups at our corporate headquarters."

AIT tape storage products, ranging from 20 gigabytes to up to 400 gigabytes native storage capacity on a single cartridge, provide unique features and benefits, such as Memory-In-Cassette for faster access to files and Write-Once, Read-Many (WORM) functionality for added data security. For increased reliability, AIT only uses Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME) media, which contains pure evaporated cobalt and is sealed with a super-durable Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating. In addition, AIT drives incorporate an automated head cleaner mechanism. Together, the AME media and automated head cleaner reduce the need for periodic cleaning.
