In an ongoing effort to connect and converse with customers and the public, Sony Electronics is expanding its social networking outreach with today's beta launch of an interactive community site. The site (www.sony.com/electronicsblog) will house the company's blog, as well as videos, photos, polls and consumer profiles.

The launch coincides with the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show and will provide people with a resource for finding out about the latest announcements and show activity in an informal, conversational format, while at the same time being able to interact directly with company officials and other Sony enthusiasts.

"The Sony blog has enabled us to speak frankly and directly with our customer base and the public at large, not only in the U.S. but around the world," said blog host Rick Clancy, senior vice president of corporate communications, Sony Electronics Inc. "Now we're looking to make the blog the cornerstone of a more interactive community site that provides people with the opportunity to talk to us and to each other about their opinions, experiences and observations with respect to Sony, our products, the industry and even our competitors."

The Sony Electronics community site will also link to the company's existing social networking sites, including the Frontline consumer research community, the Backstage 101 learning community, and Ratings and Reviews on sonystyle.com. Additional Sony product and service focused communities will launch in the coming months.

To further engage people, Sony is asking for help in naming the new community site by encouraging consumers to submit their ideas on the new community blog.

"My favorite so far is "Sony No Baloney," which I used for the very first blog post, but some of my colleagues disagree," Clancy said. "Hopefully, the community members themselves can suggest something more clever."

In conjunction with developing the new community, Sony has also launched a Sony Electronics channel on YouTube.com, a Sony Electronics Twitter account, and a Sony Electronics Flickr page. Sony also has a CES 2009 Facebook page.
