Sony Movie Channel Ends The Year With Epic Biblical Films, Comedic Flicks, Courtroom Mysteries, Boxing Themes And Action-Adventure Movies In December

Channel devotes Christmas Day, Wed., Dec. 25 to Celebrating Movies from Legendary Special-Effects Filmmaker Ray Harryhausen

CULVER CITY, Calif., Nov. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Movie Channel (SMC) is celebrating the holiday season by presenting its audience with a wide-range of film genres, from courtroom dramas to action flicks, and biblical films to World War II movies for the month of December. Viewers also will be treated to marathons or special programming blocks paying tribute to Richard Pryor (12/1), Gregory Peck (12/18), Jeff Bridges (12/22), Jean Claude Van Damme (12/30) and even Ray Harryhausen on Christmas day. With such a diverse schedule, SMC has something to offer every film buff during the holidays.

The Channel starts the month celebrating comedian Richard Pryor's Birthday on Dec. 1. Pryor, who passed away in 2005 would have 73 years old on this day and in honor of his work SMC is programming a marathon of his films from 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT) to 2:40 a.m. ET (11:40 p.m. PT). Some of these movies include STIR CRAZY, THE TOY and RICHARD PRYOR LIVE ON THE SUNSET STRIP. Sony Movie Channel is also ending the year with Pryor classics starting at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT) on Dec. 31 with RICHARD PRYOR LIVE ON THE SUNSET STRIP followed by RICHARD PRYOR HERE AND NOW.  

On Christmas Eve, SMC is broadcasting the faith-based stories THE STORY OF DAVID with Timothy Bottoms and Jane Seymour at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT) as well as THE STORY OF JACOB AND JOSEPH starring Colleen Dewhurst and Herschel Bernardi at 8:10 p.m. ET (5:10 p.m. PT). These two biblical films will also air earlier in the month on Dec. 8 and 15. 

Then on Christmas, SMC is paying homage to the legendary special effects filmmaker Ray Harryhausen who passed away last May at the age of 92. In honor of his work on the silver screen, SMC is airing some of his most notable films starting at 12:40 p.m. ET (9:40 a.m. PT). Fans will enjoy watching THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD, MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and the documentary about his career, RAY HARRYHAUSEN: SPECIAL EFFECTS TITAN.

In addition, Sony Movie Channel is providing an American version of the Canadian holiday Boxing Day, Thurs., Dec. 26, with its special "boxing movie stunt," featuring such films as GOLDEN BOY, FAT CITY and THE GREATEST which features Muhammed Ali playing himself in a reconstruction of the events that brought him to fame.

KING RAT (1965) – Set in WWII Japanese POW camp, this adaption of the James Clavell novel is about an American corporal who operates a number of lucrative rackets within the camp's confines. Starring George Segal and Patrick O'Neal.

THE HEROES OF TELEMARK (1966) – It is 1942 and Norway is under the thumb of the Nazis. In a Norwegian factory, Nazis are producing an essential element in the production of atomic weapons.
