CULVER CITY, Calif., June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Movie Channel's (SMC) July lineup offers a roster of hits, headlined by five more critically acclaimed films, airing every Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. The month starts with a bang on July 5, with George C. Scott and Peter Sellers in Stanley Kubrick's celebrated satire DR. STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB, and Walter Matthau and Henry Fonda in the Sidney Lumet thriller FAIL SAFE. Although STRANGELOVE was made first, it works as a parody of—and complement to—FAIL SAFE, due to their similar themes. The films are so similar, in fact, that Kubrick and author Peter George sued to protect their property, keeping FAIL SAFE out of theatres for eight months. The block also features Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda in EASY RIDER (July 12); Shawn Hatosy and Scott Glenn in the John McCain memoir FAITH OF MY FATHERS (July 19); and Jean Stapleton in the Eleanor Roosevelt biopic ELEANOR, FIRST LADY OF THE WORLD (July 26).

SMC presents a block of Westerns and war epics all month long in "The Recline," every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. Western icon Randolph Scott battles outlaws on July 1, in THE TALL T with Maureen O'Sullivan and Chris Olsen, and dodges a murder charge in BUCHANAN RIDES ALONE; then, Van Johnson sabotages American troops in THE LAST BLITZKRIEG, and Cliff Robertson surrenders in BATTLE OF THE CORAL SEA (July 8); Glenn Ford and Ernest Borgnine star in JUBAL, and Gary Merrill makes peace with the Sioux in THE BLACK DAKOTAS (July 15); Steve McQueen leads the charge in THE WAR LOVER, and Kerwin Mathews witnesses a murder in Guadalcanal in TARAWA BEACHHEAD (July 22); Kurt Russell and Tim Matheson face Old West perils in THE LONGEST DRIVE, and Michael J. Pollard brings Billy the Kid to life in DIRTY LITTLE BILLY, with Gary Busey (July 29).

And tune in for beloved classics and modern favorites in the "Friday Features" block, every week at 10 p.m. ET. SMC celebrates 35 years of THE BLUE LAGOON—originally released on July 2, 1980—with a night of steamy island romance starring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins in the controversial coming of age drama, followed by Madonna in SWEPT AWAY (July 3); other highlights include the network premiere of Stephen Spielberg's sci-fi opus CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, and Sam Rockwell in MOON (July 10); Nick Swardson in BUCKY LARSON: BORN TO BE A STAR, and A GOOD OLD FASHIONED ORGY with Jason Sudeikis and Lake Bell (July 17); Johnny Depp in the Stephen King adaptation SECRET WINDOW, and STRAW DOGS with Kate Bosworth and James Marsden (July 24); and Casper Van Dien fights aliens in STARSHIP TROOPERS 3: MARAUDER, followed by Adrian Paul in the action-packed sci-fi thriller EYEBORGS (July 31).
