The Dr. Oz Show Launches Search For A Nurse To Join The Core Team Of The Dr. Oz Show

Monday September 21st Episode Devoted Entirely to Nurses and Nursing and Launch Pad for a Nationwide Search for a Nurse To Appear Regularly

09/21/2015

NEW YORK, Sept. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The three-time Emmy® award-winning, "The Dr. Oz Show" announced its first ever search for a nurse to join the core team of guest experts on "The Dr. Oz Show" in a program where the full hour was devoted to nurses and nursing. The nurses show was part of the season seven tapings, but after last Sunday, with the national conversation surrounding Miss Colorado's tribute to the nursing profession in last week's Miss America pageant, "The Dr. Oz Show" stepped up to provide a forum for extended discussion of nurses' integral role in providing health care and healing. Miss Colorado will also make an appearance.

Miss Colorado, Kelley Johnson, Joins Dr. Oz on the show today to discuss her love of nursing.

"I have depended on the wisdom, guidance, support and nurturing of nurses the entirety of my career as a surgeon," said Mehmet Oz, M.D., host. "I have worked alongside nurses every step of my medical career and it's time that a nurse joins my core team of medical experts. The same wisdom and passion for healing that is so critical with patients should also take place on our stage."

"The Dr. Oz Show" will review candidates and make a decision this fall. The nurse chosen will participate in segments and offer expert commentary, additional perspective and practical advice on a variety of health topics. The person chosen will have a core team role very similar to the core experts that make regular guest appearances on the show when relevant topics are the focus. The regular guests connect with the viewers and are familiar faces and personalities.

The unorthodox appearance of Miss Colorado in nursing scrubs and wearing a stethoscope ignited a discussion that highlighted the need to celebrate and recognize the nursing profession. On Monday, the entire studio audience is comprised of nurses dressed in their work attire (scrubs); and, after an appearance by Miss Colorado to discuss her feelings about the controversy, various aspects of nursing are explored.

Anyone can nominate a practicing or retired nurse or submit themselves by going to www.doctoroz.com and clicking on #NurseSearch. To be a regular guest nurse on the show, a candidate must be exemplary and a good communicator. The nurse chosen will be announced on "The Dr. Oz Show".
