Experience the World of the Upcoming Columbia Pictures Film Passengers

Sony Square NYC Unveils Its Newest Experience

12/06/2016

NEW YORK, Dec. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- From December 6 to January 20, 2017, Sony Square NYC, a showplace for the latest in Sony entertainment and technology, is shining the spotlight on the upcoming Columbia Pictures film Passengers, which opens in the U.S. on December 21.

Visitors to Sony Square NYC will explore the outer space realm of the film through the utilization of Sony products and concepts. Participants in this experience will also be able to see, touch and interact with set pieces and costumes from the film.

Upon entering the space, visitors will be greeted by a robot featured in the film.  The robot employs MESH motion tags to detect human movement and react to visitors.

After encountering the robot greeter, visitors are invited to climb inside an actual sleep chamber from the film for a unique photo op to share with friends and on social media.

Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to have their face transposed onto the facemask of a spacesuit that was used in the film via augmented reality technology.

As an added bonus, individuals who post on social media using the special Sony Square hashtag will be able to leave the showroom with a printed photo of anything they post.

The Passengers experience also features several Sony products that are still in the conceptual stage in order to further engage participants. Using the Xperia™ Agent concept, visitors can explore different scenes from the film through naturally interacting with the device. The Xperia Agent concept is a vision for a personalized assistant by providing useful information, communication assistance and home appliance controls using Sony Agent Technology. It uses face recognition and will intelligently respond to your voice commands using life-like expressions and motions.

Visitors will also be able to interact with content from the movie using the Xperia Projector concept, which enriches, empowers and stimulates creative family communication using a natural and interactive interface projection on any clear surface. By displaying an interactive touch screen onto a flat surface, such as wall or table, Xperia Projector concept creates a social and convenient way for you to communicate or to enjoy shared experiences with family and friends.

In addition to engaging with scenes and content from the film, listen and interact with the movie's soundtrack using Xperia Ear, an in-ear personal assistant. Xperia Ear responds to verbal commands as well as intuitive gesture operations. Equipped with Sony Agent Technology and a gyroscope, accelerometer and proximity sensor, it provides useful information such as your messages, schedule and other personalized updates when you just place it in your ear, enabling you face forward and get things done.

The Passengers experience at Sony Square NYC is free and open to the public.

"The Passengers installation at Sony Square NYC allows for visitors to engage and interact with the film in an unconventional manner. The unique exhibit offers individuals the opportunity to not only be immersed in the film, but to use several Sony products that are still in development. This exclusive experience demonstrates our dedication to entertaining and wowing our audience," said Steven Fuld, Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing, Sony Corporation of America.

Sony Square NYC is located at 25 Madison Avenue and is open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m.7 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m.6 p.m.
