Columbia Records recording artist Steve Tyrell will make a special
in-store appearance at the Tower Records - Lincoln Center location to
perform selections from, and autograph copies of, Standard Time, his new
album on Columbia Records.
Tyrell's last album, A New Standard was the #4 Top-Selling Jazz album of
2000, according to SoundScan. In addition, the record secured the #7 Top
Jazz Album slot and Tyrell the #6 Top Jazz Artist position in the
Billboard 2000 Year End roundup. A New Standard remained in the Top 20 of
Billboard's Jazz Chart, more than 89 weeks after its release.
Like its predecessor, Standard Time brings together a deluxe selection of
much-loved jazz "classics," performed with the exhilarating earthiness
that has earned Tyrell the acclaim of musicians, music critics, and fans
alike. Again, Tyrell has teamed up with some of the great jazz and big
band players of the swing band era -- from trumpeters Clark Terry and
Harry "Sweets" Edison to saxophonist Plas Johnson to harmonica virtuoso
"Toots" Thielemans -- to bring an aura of unassailable authenticity to the
album. Among the numerous highpoints of Standard Time is a delightfully
sassy duet with Jane Monheit, whose latest album, Come Dream With Me, is a
"traditional jazz" bestseller.
