Court Dismisses Copyright Lawsuit Against Marc Anthony

The court has dismissed a lawsuit filed last year against singer Marc Anthony, which alleged that his award-winning hit song "I Need to Know" was not written by Anthony and composer/producer Cory Rooney.

According to Anthony's lawyer, Orin Snyder of the firm Parcher, Hayes & Snyder, the lawsuit was dismissed by United States District Judge Denny Chin after Daniel Agren determined that his claims were legally insufficient.

The lawsuit had alleged that "I Need to Know" infringed the copyright of an unpublished song by Agren of the same title.

"This lawsuit was frivolous from the outset and Marc should be commended for fighting it all the way. The dismissal of the case vindicates Marc and Cory's authorship of this wonderful song," said Snyder.

"I am grateful that the court system worked and hope that our victory discourages lawsuits of this kind against artists in the future," added Anthony.

"I Need to Know" won a Latin Grammy for Song of the Year (2000) and received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance (2000).
