The Ataris Hit the Road on Headline Tour Featuring Sugarcult, Autopilot Off & Rufio

Eagerly Awaited Columbia Records Debut Album Coming in March 2003

The Ataris, one of the most successful independent rock bands of recent years, will commence a six-week North American headlining tour on November 4 in Salt Lake City (see itinerary following).

Opening for the Ataris are Sugarcult, Autopilot Off and Rufio, all of whom have built up strong live followings of their own.

News of the Ataris' tour comes as the band finishes work on So Long, Astoria, the group's eagerly-awaited Columbia Records debut. Produced by Lou Giordano (Goo Goo Dolls, Sunny Day Real Estate, Samiam, Paul Westerberg), So Long, Astoria is slated for release in March 2003.

A virtual touring machine since the band's inception, the Ataris have shared bills with Jimmy Eat World, Alkaline Trio, Social Distortion, Blink 182, The Hives, 311 and many others. The group has been a main stage attraction on the Van's Warped Tour and has sold out shows in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

"After months of writing and recording our new album, we are very excited to be getting back on the road to see all of our loyal fans again," says the Ataris' Kris Roe. "We are especially excited about being able to bring some great bands out with us." This tour features a particularly close-knit bill as Sugarcult guitarist Marko 72 was formerly a member of the Ataris, and Chris Hughes of Autopilot Off grew up with Ataris' guitarist Johnny Collura in Orange County, New York.

The Ataris are: Kris Roe (lead vocals/guitar), Johnny Collura (guitar/vocals), Mike Davenport (bass/vocals), and Chris "Kid" Knapp (drums). The group was first discovered in 1997 when songwriter Kris Roe passed along his demo tape to Joe Escalante, bassist for the Vandals and owner of Kung Fu Records. Moving from Anderson, Indiana, to Santa Barbara, California, Roe assembled The Ataris' line-up and recorded the group's first full-length offering, Anywhere But Here, for Kung Fu. The Ataris subsequently recorded an EP, Look Forward To Failure (1998 - Fat Wreck Chords), as well as the additional Kung Fu releases: Blue Skies, Broken Hearts ... Next 12 Exits (1999), Let It Burn (2000), and End Is Forever (2001), each of which has sold more than 100,000 copies in the U.S. and has achieved similar sales successes around the world. So Long Astoria is the Ataris' major label debut.
