The 8th annual "Game Before the Game" pits a top athlete from each of the respective AFC and NFC Championship teams in a Super Bowl preview, playing NFL GameDay 2003, the most exciting and realistic football game available for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system. The winner of this game is an amazing 7-0 in predicting the actual outcome for the Super Bowl, with Troy Brown of the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots defeating the St. Louis Rams' Isaac Bruce, forecasting the biggest upset in Super Bowl history. Lynn Swann from ABC Sports and Pat O'Brien from "Access Hollywood" will call this year's exciting action. This event is open to credentialed media only and will be held at the W Hotel in San Diego on Wednesday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m.
"America Online Presents the NFL Experience at Super Bowl XXXVII" promises to be one of the most well-attended events during Super Bowl Week, and PlayStation 2 and 989 Sports will have a strong presence throughout the week-long attraction. Held at the Embarcadero in downtown San Diego, the NFL Experience will provide the more than 150,000 football fans of all ages an interactive theme park offering games, displays, and entertainment. Attendees will have the opportunity to play NFL GameDay 2003 for PlayStation 2, as well as other popular games, on the PlayStation 2 Touring Attraction. This 75-foot long gamers' paradise features more than 30 PlayStation 2 units, an 80-inch video screen, and numerous other large-screen monitors. In addition, the Locker Room Challenge returns to the NFL Experience. Competing on the brand new 989 Sports Locker Room Challenge On Tour Vehicle -- a 30-foot, state-of-the-art mobile truck featuring a big screen TV, thunderous sound system, and realistic "locker room" setting -- eight consumer finalists will battle against each other to determine a champion. The winner will receive a PlayStation 2 and VIP access to the NFL player portion of the event. Furthermore, four current, marquee NFL players will compete, with the emerging victor taking on the consumer winner to determine the Locker Room Challenge Championship. These video game contests with the NFL players will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25.
An all-new concert series is coming to the Super Bowl this year, as PlayStation 2 teams up with Best Buy, the NFL and Clear Channel Entertainment for the Best Buy Super Bowl XXXVII Concert Series brought to you by PlayStation 2. Featuring major music labels, the concerts will be held at the Embarcadero on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25, starting at 7:30 p.m. Hosted by NFL Players, including San Diego Charger Marcellus Wiley, consumers will be entertained by some of today's hottest artists, including the Goo Goo Dolls, with a spectacular fireworks extravaganza to follow the music on Saturday night. Eve and Fabulous are scheduled to perform on Friday night.
Continuing its strong presence at the top events, PlayStation 2 will participate in the most anticipated parties throughout Super Bowl week. For the second consecutive year, PlayStation 2 is an associate sponsor of Maxim Magazine's Maximville Event, held Saturday, January 25 at the WonderBread Factory in San Diego. The party will feature more than 10 PlayStation 2 gaming areas, with guests able to play some of the hottest titles available. The party, attended by the biggest celebrities, NFL athletes, and VIP's in San Diego for the Super Bowl, will transform the historic building into a miniature city featuring dancing, a casino, and entertainment.
Another marquee event that same night will be the fourth annual Playboy's Super Saturday Night. Transforming the historic Balboa Park into a Latin rendition of the Playboy Mansion called Casa de Playboy, the event will feature a lively mix of music and entertainment for top celebrities and athletes hosted by Hugh Hefner and the Playboy Playmates with co-hosts Carmen Electra and Tom Arnold. As primary sponsor and exclusive gaming partner, PlayStation 2 will have interactive kiosks and popular titles available for gameplay, giving attendees the opportunity to experience the excitement of PlayStation 2. In addition, Playboy Playmates will be challenging partygoers to contests on PlayStation 2 to benefit the charity, Athletes Helping Kids.
A newcomer to the party scene this year, ESPN The Magazine is teaming up with Miller Lite for an anticipated event on Friday, January 24 at the Martini Ranch Bar in downtown San Diego. Hosted by former football player and Super Bowl winner, Tony Siragusa, the Miller Lite and ESPN The Magazine present Weekend Warm-Up Party will include numerous PlayStation 2 kiosks, featuring NFL GameDay 2003 and other top 989 Sports titles.
Not only will Sony Computer Entertainment America have a strong presence at major events throughout the week, but it will also be advertising during both the ABC pre-game and post-game shows on Sunday, January 26, with a scheduled nine spots to run during the four hour long pre-game show and one spot during the post-game telecast. In addition, ABC will dedicate a segment to cover highlights of the Wednesday night "Game Before the Game" competition.
"We are thrilled to be a part of all of the great festivities throughout Super Bowl week, helping bring even more excitement to the biggest event in professional sports," said Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "NFL athletes, celebrities, and football fans will all have the opportunity to experience the power, excitement, and innovation of the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system at marquee events leading up to biggest football game of the year."
