With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' dominating win over the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII, 989 Sports® Game Before the Game® extended its winning streak to a perfect eight for eight in correctly predicting the winner of the Super Bowl. On Wednesday, January 22, at the Eighth Annual Game Before the Game, Tampa Bay Buccaneers' receiver Keenan McCardell led his team to a convincing and prophetic 28-8 victory over Charlie Garner, running back for the Oakland Raiders, in NFL GameDay™ 2003 on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. This Bucs victory set the stage for its equally convincing win in Super Bowl XXXVII, as going into the title match-up a perfect seven of the previous seven winners of the Game Before the Game had gone on to victory in the Super Bowl.

Billed as the "leading Super Bowl indicator" by NFL Hall-of-Famer and Game Before the Game co-host, Lynn Swann, the Eighth Annual Game Before the Game was played in front of a packed house at the W Hotel in downtown San Diego, where celebrity onlookers included Trista Rehn (The Bachelorette), Joey Fatone ('NSync), Carson Daly (MTV) and sports stars such as Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders and Marcus Allen. The standing room only crowd was treated to a remarkable display of foreshadowing as McCardell and the Buccaneers' top ranked defense proved to be too much for Garner and the Raiders' top ranked offense, with an unstoppable pass rush and timely interceptions. Equally prophetic were McCardell's two touchdown catches in the Game Before the Game, the same number of scoring receptions he would log in Super Bowl XXXVII, en route to leading his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl title and a perfect 8-0 record for the Game Before the Game.
