Below are statements from Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep, and Charlie Kaufman relating to their nominations:

NICOLAS CAGE'S STATEMENT

"Filming ADAPTATION was such an amazing experience. I signed on for the film to work with Charlie and Spike who are true artists. I am very happy to be included in such great company along with some of my favorite actors and I am thrilled for Meryl, Chris and Charlie."

MERYL STREEP'S STATEMENT

"I am thrilled and honored to be nominated, and also aghast that anybody could imagine that I could surpass the unsurpassable Katharine Hepburn in any category whatsoever. But it's lovely to even be mentioned in the same sentence."

CHARLIE KAUFMAN'S STATEMENT

"The whole process of writing ADAPTATION was an anxious and uncertain time for me. So, to be nominated for an Academy Award is a nice and very surprising ending to the story of this assignment. I am also absolutely thrilled for Nic, Meryl and Chris. Spike, Nic and I were doing interviews in London for the U.K. release and heard cheering down the hall and knew something good had happened."
