(hed) Planet Earth -- Jahred (vocals), Wes (guitar), Sonny (guitar), Mawk (bass), B.C. (drums) and DJ Product 1969© (turntables, samples) -- wrapped up their co-headlining stint on the Jagermeister Music Tour this past Sunday, April 20 in Pontiac, MI in support of their newly released critically acclaimed BLACKOUT album.
Now that the tour's officially over, the band isn't exactly turning around and going home. They're continuing on a slew of headlining shows and radio festivals-including the prestigious WHFS Festival on May 24 in Washington, DC at RFK Stadium -- that start Tuesday, April 22 in Grand Rapids, MI. They'll also be playing a few dates with Godsmack and Breaking Benjamin along the way.
The album made its debut on the Billboard "Top 200 Albums" chart at #33 as the "Hotshot Debut" (the highest of the week by any artist). It also landed on SoundScan's "Current Alternative Albums" chart at #13 and "Top Hard Music Albums" chart at #6. All these impressive numbers marked the highest debuts in the band's eight-year career.
The first single (for the title track) has also been a huge success so far. It garnered over 80 adds its first week out, making it the #2 Most Added track at Active Rock radio and the #3 Most Added track at Modern Rock radio, only to be beaten by Godsmack and AFI. It's currently bulleted at #23 on Billboard's "Mainstream Rock Tracks" chart, #32 on the "Modern Rock Tracks" chart and #21 on the "Active Rock Tracks" chart.
Meanwhile, BLACKOUT has been racking up a lot of critical acclaim since its March 18 release. Jeff Salamon of Blender called it "... a bracing blast of twenty-first-century hard rock." While Dan Aquilante in the New York Post hailed it as "... an album of aggression, confusion and angst. Considering what's going on politically on planet Earth, this is truly a disc for our times."
Nearly a decade after their genesis in Huntington Beach, California, (hed) Planet Earth has spent the last few years on the cusp of success, touring the globe with bands such as P.O.D., Metallica, Slayer, Linkin Park, Korn, Slipknot and Papa Roach, and cracking over 250,000 sales with their second album, BROKE, which continues to sell very well even though it was released almost three years ago (August 2000). Now with BLACKOUT, they're poised and ready to finally hit the big time.
