Hot on the heels of his latest CD release, POODLE HAT (Volcano/Jive), pop culture's consummate prankster "Weird Al" Yankovic cranks up his "pirate satellite broadcasting transmitter" to take over the airwaves of VH1 with "AL-TV," premiering Tuesday, June 17 at 11:00 PM.

In this outrageous one-hour special, Al is visited by some of the world's biggest music stars, who drop by the AL-TV studios for their "exclusive interviews" (you'll have to tune in to understand why we put the quotes there). Al also introduces his best friend and world-class stunt rodent Harvey the Wonder Hamster, and of course... he plays all the videos that HE wants to watch! (Strangely, they're all his own... hey, it's his show!)
From his classic Michael Jackson parodies ("Eat It" and "Fat") to "Smells Like Nirvana," "Amish Paradise" and his brand new Eminem parody, "Couch Potato," "Weird Al" Yankovic has made an art out of mocking classic videos and lampooning today's current hits. Released May 20, "POODLE HAT" is Al's highest Billboard debut ever at #17 -- without the benefit of a music video to promote it (Eminem ok'd the parody as a track on the album, but would not approve the making of a video for it). The album also features parodies of Avril Lavigne, Nelly, Backstreet Boys and Billy Joel as well as several original compositions including homages to Bob Dylan and Frank Zappa. Currently Weird Al and his band are gearing up to take his POODLE HAT TOUR on the road starting June 19 and will continue to tour into early September.
VH1's edition of "Behind The Music" featuring Weird Al was one of the channel's highest-rated episodes of that series ever (catch it again June 16 11:30/10:30c AM), and now, with this latest special, Al continues his successful collaboratuin with the music channel.
It's "AL-TV" ... the reason television was invented.
