For those whose handheld computing needs can be boiled down to the basic, but who want the speed, features and ease-of-use in a tool fit to carry into a boardroom, Sony's latest CLIE® handhelds, announced today, have all that, and value, too.
Less than half-inch thin and comfortable in a shirt pocket or handbag, the new CLIE PEG-TJ25 and -TJ35 handheld models will be available this month at retailers nationwide for about $200 and $250, respectively. Pre-orders for both models begin today at www.sonystyle.com/clie .
Framed around an aluminum body, the devices' high-resolution (320 x 320 pixel) color LCD screen provides a clear, bright window to schedules, phone numbers and memorable images. Additionally, the enhanced Jog Dial™ navigator, which enables an effective four-directional movement, gives quick access to various supported applications.
Allowing users to spend more time enjoying the device and less time setting it up, Sony has pre-installed key applications, including CLIE Memo and CLIE Viewer, directly on to the ROM memory.
The CLIE TJ35 handheld features lots of extras, including an integrated MP3 player (headphones optional), Decuma Latin natural handwriting recognition software (Decuma AB), and Picsel Viewer™ for CLIE software (Picsel Technologies, Ltd.) for viewing native Microsoft® Word®, Excel® and PowerPoint® files.
Both feature a 200MHz processor and ample memory for viewing work documents and images, as well as playing graphics-intensive video games. Thirty-two megabytes of internal RAM memory (23MB available space) are offered on the TJ35 model and 16MB (11MB available space) on the TJ25 handheld. The dedicated Memory Stick PRO™ media slot provides optional memory expansion of up to 1GB.
