The Candy Butchers will join forces with The Figgs when these two great live bands kick off a multi-city tour on April 14 with a performance at Mohawk Place in Buffalo, NY (see itinerary following). San Francisco, Chicago, and Seattle are some other stops along the tour, which wraps up its first leg in Cleveland, OH on May 4.
Both bands have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with the Candy Butchers sharing Figgs' bass player Pete Donnelly, who has toured with them and performed on all of their CDs, including the Candy Butcher's latest, HANG ON MIKE. In addition, the new CD also features Figgs' guitarist Mike Gent for the first time. Joining Mike Viola, Donnelly and Gent, the other Candy Butchers members are Jed Parish on piano and Mike "Beans" Benigno on drums. Now based in New York City, Candy Butchers have established a strong following and were named one of "NYC's Top Ten Rock Bands" by Rolling Stone magazine. HANG ON MIKE has gotten strong reviews and the band performed the first single "Nice To Know You" on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "Last Call with Carson Daly." Candy Butchers recently taped a performance and interview segment for Pete Fornatale's nationally syndicated radio program, "Mixed Bag," which will air next month.
The Figgs have been a favorite on the club circuit and are comprised of Pete Donnelly on bass and vocals, Mike Gent on guitar and vocals, and Pete Hayes on drums.
The band formed in 1987 in Saratoga Springs and through their CDs and extensive touring they have established a loyal national following. CMJ Weekly observed, "The Figgs have no frills and no poses, just tough, durable chords, simple lyrics and shameless melodies." They have toured with Tommy Stinson (Guns 'n' Roses, The Replacements) as well as British rocker Graham Parker. Their forthcoming CD, PALAIS, will be a double-disc entry with 25 new songs and will be out on May 18th on Sodapop/Stomper Records. PALAIS will be the band's eighth CD and it features several guest artists including Candy Butchers' Mike Viola, Jed Parish of Mother Tongues, and Tommy Stinson of Guns 'n' Roses.
