Northern State Hits the Road in October

Groundbreaking Hip-Hop Trio to Tour With Labelmates CAKE

Northern State, the groundbreaking female hip-hop trio, will hit the road in October for a series of concerts with the group's Columbia Records labelmates CAKE. The Northern State/CAKE tour begins October 7 at the Orpheum in Boston (see full itinerary following).

The Northern State tour will mark the group's first concerts since the trio's performances with the X-Ecutioners in June-July 2004.

Released on August 17, All City, the new Northern State album, has been drawing critical raves from the mainstream to the underground. "With few female MCs truly representing these days," wrote Billboard, "Northern State's All City is a breath of fresh air." While UR Chicago noted that "All City takes Northern State from girl-power novelty to hip-hop ingenuity," Rolling Stone praised the album's " ... hip-hop for the modern fabulous woman ...." According to The New York Times, "The all-white, all-female trio Northern State specializes in old-fashioned hip-hop, evoking a mythical time before the genre was allegedly ruined by all the usual ills: materialism, sexism, internal rhyme, tricky rhythms."

All City showcases Northern State at its brash iconoclastic best with tracks like "Ignite," "Girl For All Seasons," "Nice With It," "Last Night," "Think Twice," "Don't Look Down," "Siren Song," "Style I Bring," "Time To Rhyme," "Speaking For Me," and "Summer Never Ends." Nearly a year in the making, All City features tracks produced by Northern State, Manifest, DJ Muggs from Cypress Hill, Groove Bros., DJ Mighty Mi, Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson of the Roots, Pete Rock, and John Fields.
