Product design meets Hollywood style with Sony Electronics' new Design Center which officially opened today in Santa Monica, Calif. The new space brings Sony's U.S. design staff, including the product, graphic and interaction teams, together in one dramatic location. Tonight's ceremonies are expected to include Sony executives from around the globe, as well as guests from the local design industry, in a space not typically open to the public.

The Design Center's new location will help Sony take advantage of the diverse creative community in the Los Angeles area. It will also be in close proximity to Sony Pictures, Sony-BMG Music, the music service Connect in Santa Monica, and naturally Sony Electronics U.S. headquarters in San Diego.

"Design plays a key role in affirming Sony as a leader in consumer electronics. Our mission here is to re-focus our energies on the creative side and create the future of lifestyle entertainment," said Fumiya Matsuoka, vice president for Sony's U.S. design operation.
