Elkland, the groundbreaking new "synthpop" quartet from upstate New York, has landed the coveted opening slot on the hotly-anticipated Erasure tour, including sold-out multi-night runs in New York and Los Angeles. Prior to the Erasure tour, Elkland will perform at the South By Southwest (SxSW) music conference in Austin, Texas, and during the Winter Music Conference in Miami Beach (see full itinerary following).
News of Elkland's appearances on "The Erasure Show" comes on the heels of the announcement that the band's debut album, Golden, will arrive in stores on Tuesday, April 19, two weeks earlier than its original release date.
"The band's full-length, Golden, cannot arrive soon enough," wrote Michael Paoletta in Billboard (February 12, 2005) as he heralded Elkland -- Jon Pierce (vocals), Jesse Pierce (drums), Adam Kessler (guitars) and Joel Tarpin (keyboards) -- for "building a bridge to the next new wave ..."
The upcoming Elkland/Erasure shows promise a series of parties on that bridge celebrating the glorious legacy and shining future of 21st century synthpop music.
"Apart," the first single from Golden, is available in three formats -- 12" and 7" vinyl as well as CD -- and features five cuts including Elkland's cover of the Cranberries' "Salvation" as well as a remix of "Apart" by electronica master Jacknife Lee. Billboard praised the song's "... infectious melodies and hooks, as 'Apart' remains embedded in the brain long after the song has ended."
With Golden, the members of Elkland have taken the group's collective deep love, and passionate understanding, of classic post-punk synthpop and Britpop -- from Joy Division and the Smiths to New Order and Bjork -- to create a hook-dappled blueprint for a harmonious shimmering synthpop of tomorrow using authentic old school synthesizers and drum machines that the band has collected over the years.
The group recorded all the album's electronics, using vintage gear exclusively, at New York's Sony Studios with producer John Hill. Guitars, drums, etc. were recorded in Los Angeles at Kingsize Sound Labs with producer/mixer Dave Trumfio, of Chicago's Pulsars, at the boards.
