Sony Pictures Mobile announced today that XXX: State of the Union will soon be infiltrating mobile phones with the new game and PhoneCandy based on Revolution Studios' sequel. With the XXX: State of the Union game, players everywhere can join in the action-filled quest to stop a band of terrorists as they attempt to take over the United States. The film will be released worldwide by Columbia Pictures on April 29th.
XXX: State of the Union is a high-octane, arcade-style mobile phone game that gives players the chance to slip into the action as Darius Stone, an ex-Navy SEAL weapons expert who has been handpicked by the NSA to be the next Agent XXX. Players choose from an arsenal of weapons as they navigate through missions that include the daring infiltration of a warehouse in Cuba suspected of housing illegal munitions. Players must evade the enemy forces guarding the facility and destroy the weaponry before it can be detonated.
In Revolution Studios' follow-up to the successful franchise film XXX, NSA Agent Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), fresh off the success of his last renegade recruitment, once again finds himself in need of an outsider. Gibbons and his new agent (Ice Cube), also code-named "XXX," must track a dangerous military splinter group led by Willem Dafoe that is conspiring to overthrow the U.S. Government in the nation's capital.
XXX: State of the Union is being produced by Neal Moritz (Stealth, S.W.A.T., XXX, The Fast and the Furious) and Arne Schmidt (Big Fish, XXX, We Were Soldiers), written by Simon Kinberg (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) and directed by Lee Tamahori (Die Another Day).
"The explosions are bigger, the weaponry louder and the missions more challenging in the XXX: State of the Union game," said Mike Arrieta, senior vice president, Sony Pictures Digital. "The interactive environments and non-stop action create an immersive experience that puts players right in the middle of the adventure."
In addition to traditional downloads such as themed wallpapers and screensavers, the XXX: State of the Union mobile arsenal features an extended array of highly advanced applications. Downloadable video ringers make phones light up to images from the film, while special voicetones feature the actual voices of the film's stars Ice Cube and Xzibit. In addition, a themed multimedia messaging service (MMS) adds images, text and audio clips to mobile messages and user interface themes and a special XXX Radar Clock are also available for download.
XXX: State of the Union content is the first project resulting from Sony Pictures Mobile's recent agreement with Revolution Studios to create and distribute an extensive suite of branded mobile entertainment premium products based on the studio's upcoming films. The two companies initially worked together on the successful XXX: Triple Threat game created for the first XXX film.
"The game and downloads for XXX: State of the Union are a perfect extension of this exciting film," said Revolution Studios partner Tom Sherak. "Fans of the franchise will be totally enthralled by the distinctive sights and action, while new audiences will be given a unique look into what makes XXX: State of the Union such a thrilling experience."
The XXX: State of the Union game and PhoneCandy will be available beginning in April for download through partnerships with all major wireless carriers throughout the U.S. and Europe. Airtime charges vary by carrier. PhoneCandy ranges from $1.00 to $2.00 and the game is available for around $5.99 per download.
