Sony Electronics today introduced its new BRAVIA™ XBR flat panel LCD high-definition televisions (HDTVs) in 40-, 32- and 26-inch screen sizes here at a trade show for home theater enthusiasts and custom AV installers.
The KDL-V40XBR1, KDL-V32XBR1 and KDL-V26XBR1 models are the newest BRAVIA-branded sets. BRAVIA (Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture) is Sony's new sub-brand for LCD flat-panel TVs.
"For Sony, BRAVIA is the next step in the evolution of TV," said Randy Waynick, senior vice president of Sony Electronics Home Products Division. "Our new flat-panels feature an attractive design and brilliant picture, which simply has to be seen to be appreciated."
The latest XBR models feature Sony's advanced Wide Color Gamut-Cold Cathode Florescent Light (WCG-CCFL™) backlighting system, which produces purer white light for a wider and more accurate range of colors. Additionally, the 32- and 40-inch models utilize S-PVA (Super Patterned Vertical Alignment) technology, which produces a wider viewing angle and faster response times. Combined with the exclusive WEGA Engine™ System, the sets deliver high contrast, along with a sharper more detailed picture.
These new XBR LCD models feature 1366 x 768 resolution, an integrated ATSC tuner and a CableCARD™ slot for access to high-definition cable television content.
For convenience, Sony's graphic user interface provides simple menu navigation and easy access to AV controls. Additionally, an input skip function allows quick access to sources connected to any of the various inputs including HDMI, component video, PC input, high-speed USB, composite and S-video.
The BRAVIA XBR line features a new ultra-narrow, two-tone black and silver bezel design that incorporates two invisible 13-watt speakers driven by Sony's S-Master™ digital amplifier with SRS® TruSurround XT®. The design also offers mounting holes for increased compatibility with VESA™ compliant brackets.
The new BRAVIA KDL-V40XBR1, KDL-V32XBR1 and KDL-V26XBR1 HDTVs will ship later this month for about $3,500, $2,700 and $2,000, respectively.
Sony's KLV-S32A10 and the KLV-S26A10 LCD models, which were previously announced, will also fall under the BRAVIA brand. All Sony BRAVIA flat-panel LCD HDTVs can be found at SonyStyle.com (www.sony.com/BRAVIA), at Sony Style retail stores (www.sonystyle.com/retail), and at authorized dealers nationwide.
