Just in time for sneeze, sniffle and sore throat season, Elmo invites preschoolers to join him on a trip to the pediatrician's office -- a potentially upsetting experience for a child unless he or she knows what to expect. Elmo Visits the Doctor, a new video release by Sony Wonder and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, is designed to help preschoolers overcome their fears over doctor visits. Elmo Visits the Doctor is the first in a new line of "first moments" videos that will focus on many childhood "first" experiences.

Research* shows going to the doctor is one of the most common fears among young children. Through entertaining songs and favorite Sesame Street Muppets, Elmo Visits the Doctor helps children become more comfortable with a pediatrician's office and equipment, as well as understand the importance of check-ups to stay healthy and strong. "The video is a useful tool for parents to help their children develop positive attitudes about doctor visits," says Rosemarie Truglio, Vice President of Research, Sesame Workshop. "Learning about different types of doctors and what they do fosters positive feelings towards visiting the doctor and staying healthy everyday!"
Available in DVD and VHS format, Elmo Visits the Doctor runs 53 minutes and arrives at retail on October 4th. DVD bonus features include an Elmo Visits the Doctor game, as well as Kid-Friendly Instant Play, in which program starts automatically and plays continuously. Among program highlights:
-- Elmo and his friends from Sesame Street learn how going to the doctor can help an ear ache, a fever and a stuffy nose feel better -- Entertaining demonstration of what happens at the doctors' office -- such as waiting in the waiting room, having the doctor use a stethoscope and thermometer, and selecting a sticker -- Important lessons such as the need to finish all antibiotics, even after feeling better, and the importance of telling a grown-up when they don't feel well -- Ensemble of Sesame Street Muppets singing all new Sesame Street Songs including "The Doctor Kinda Scary Blues," "We Are Your Doctors," "Doc, You Gotta See Us Right Away," and "You've Got to Be Patient" -- New animation and a never-before-seen Elmo's World segment about doctors Plush, Parenting Magazine and Promotional Support
"Elmo Visits the Doctor" will be supported with a national consumer advertising campaign in the November issue of Parenting magazine. Additionally, a promotion with Fisher-Price's new "Check-Up Time Elmo" plush will include a cross-sell ad inside every toy.
Opportunity for Visually-Impaired Children to "See" Elmo
Elmo Visits the Doctor is one of the first Sesame Street DVDs to feature Audio Description - a feature that makes the program accessible to children who are blind or have low vision. Visually-impaired children will have the opportunity to "see" the images through descriptions of the visual elements and finally be able to embrace the full educational value of the program. The detailed process provides concise and vivid descriptions of a program's visual elements, enabling viewers to more fully experience colors, costumes, settings, facial expressions, gestures and actions.
