Sony has created two new portable DVD players that offer cutting edge versatility and are designed to fit into any hectic, on-the-move lifestyle.

The new DVD Walkman is geared toward youthful jet-setters with its 7-inch wide LCD panel and quality picture performance.

For those looking to upgrade their travels, there's also the new "portable cinema" model with a swiveling 8-inch wide LCD enclosed in a rugged, acrylic clam-shell case.

They offer an extended battery life of up to six hours for the "portable cinema" and 3 hours for the DVD Walkman with headphone use. Their tough construction and lightweight design enables either to be a ready companion for any trip or for just relaxing at home.

Both units also playback DVD, DVD+/-R / +/-RW and DVD+R dual layer discs as well as MP3 and JPEG files from CD-R/RW.

"Technology is at its best when consumers can use it on the road, whether to pass the time on an airplane or car, viewing movies, pictures from a digital camera or listening to music, these portable players are great additions," said Philip Abram, vice president of marketing for Sony Electronics' Home Products Division.

DVD Walkman

The D-VE7000S, Sony's first DVD Walkman player is a slick slim- design DVD player with 7-inch widescreen LCD and embedded battery. To enhance the viewing and listening experience, the DVD Walkman comes with a high-powered speaker cradle that also doubles as a charging dock and A/C adapter, providing versatility on the go or at home. The unit's dual headphone jacks, DVD navigation buttons, Walkman headphones, and a carrying case make it the perfect travel companion.

Additionally the DVD Walkman offers Dolby® Digital and dts® digital output with selectable video in/out for connecting to a camera, game system or television.

The "Portable Cinema"

The DVP-FX810 "portable cinema" model is ideal for family travelers with an 8-inch widescreen LCD screen encased in a hard acrylic shell. Once open, the screen can flip over the DVD player, perching atop for easier viewing individually or with family members or friends. The screen swivels 180 degrees so everyone can share in the experience.

This portable device also offers up to six-hours of battery life with headphone use, control buttons on the bezel of the LCD screen, dual headphone jacks, dual sensor remote control, and a car adapter for rear-seat entertainment.

Both the D-VE7000S DVD Walkman and the DVP-FX810 portable DVD player will be available in April for about $200.

The portable DVD players will be available through SonyStyle.com at SonyStyle retail stores and at authorized dealers nationwide.
