Sony Electronics today introduced a 42-inch high-definition professional plasma display designed for digital signage, boardroom and other business applications.

"Professional displays need to be bright with high contrast to attract the attention of consumers," said Neal Goldsmith, product manager of Sony Electronics Professional Display marketing group. "Once we have them, our network media player card, the BKM-FW50, helps keep that attention by providing an easy solution to refresh content from a central location."

The FWD-42PX2 42-inch plasma display provides long panel life along with industry leading brightness and contrast ratio measurements of 450cd/m2 and 10,000:1 (dark room), respectively. The display also offers DVI-HDCP and RS232 connectivity, as well as dual option accessory and input slots, enabling the integrator to customize the display to best fit its application.

Additionally the model, features picture-in-picture, advanced video wall and optional network connectivity, making it ideal for digital signage at a mall or office lobby.

It will be available in April for about $2,400.

Sony also offers the compatible BKM-FW50 Network Media card, which provides network status and control as well as streaming video and media to Sony displays over an IP network. Additionally, it can help reduce expensive content applications and personnel costs associated with specially trained technicians, making it ideal for use by the small/medium-sized business owner looking to upgrade their professional display systems while lowering their operating costs.

The media card is currently available for about $700.
