Inspired by the worldwide popularity of Dan Brown's best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code, Sony Classical is releasing a unique new concept album entitled The Da Vinci Project. The creation of Norwegian composer/lyricist/arranger/producer Jan Kisjes, The Da Vinci Project weaves together chant and musical echoes of the Renaissance with contemporary vocals, rhythms and electronic textures -- an original sound-world Kisjes began to imagine while reading Brown's novel. The Da Vinci Project will be released May 2, 2006.

Like many readers, Kisjes experienced a profound reaction to Brown's novel, one so powerful and insistent that The Da Vinci Project had taken shape in his imagination by the time he reached the novel's last page. The result is a musical tapestry of songs that is both atmospheric and dramatic. Some tracks -- such as "Eglise Saint-Sulpice" and "Roslin Chapel" -- evoke specific locations in the novel's plot, while others capture the awe and wonder of the timeless mystery at the heart of The Da Vinci Code.

Women's voices echo the feminine mystique of the novel in The Da Vinci Project. Kisjes' melodies have the allure of French chanson, but he arranges them in a contemporary instrumental sound, tinged with chant and liturgical singing, all set to a contemporary beat. Kisjes also uses solo vocalists as well as a choir to heighten the atmosphere, and the result is a multi-faceted musical adventure that virtually accompanies the novel's breathless but thought-provoking tale.
