Sony Electronics, the official sponsor of the Sony HD 500™ race for the second year and the official high definition TV partner of NASCAR®, worked closely with the Urban League of San Diego County, the National Society of Black Engineers, and the College Bound Program of the Concerned Parents Alliance, to invite these young guests and their chaperones for an exclusive opportunity to meet NASCAR driver Chris Bristol prior to this race later in the evening.
Bristol is a promising young driver from the NASCAR Grand National AutoZone® West Series who will drive the Sony HDTV Dodge® Charger™.
"The theme of this race is high-definition, and the only thing that beats Sony's HDTV technology is actually being at the race," said Mike Fasulo, chief marketing officer at Sony Electronics. "We're very proud to work with NASCAR in providing this opportunity for younger fans to enjoy in the sport in person. This weekend's activities represent a portion of Sony's overall commitment to the community."
Sony's community involvement will extend to Sunday, when it will present Ryan Newman, the driver of the no. 12 Sony HDTV Dodge® Charger™, with a check for $5,000 for the Ryan Newman Foundation, which assists humane and non-profit conservation and wildlife preservation organizations nationwide in their charitable efforts, and provides scholarships to qualified college or university students.
"We're excited to be able to contribute to the important work that Ryan and his organization have done. It is truly commendable and we wanted to show our support through this contribution," Fasulo said.
