America's favorite quiz show, Jeopardy!, will tape ten shows from the floor of the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show next January before a live audience as the hugely popular, Emmy Award-winning quiz show celebrates its 25th anniversary, it was announced today by host Alex Trebek and Steve Mosko, president, Sony Pictures Television. The announcement was made during a presentation by Sony Pictures Television in the Sony booth.
"Jeopardy! is one of the most successful shows in the history of television and has also gained a huge audience across other platforms," said Steve Mosko, president Sony Pictures Television. "As a leader in combining quality content with cutting-edge devices, it's a perfect fit to bring Jeopardy! to CES."
At least ten episodes will be taped before a live audience, including the show's annual Tournament of Champions. Plans also include a Celebrity Jeopardy! episode. In collaboration with SPT's corporate partners at Sony Electronics, the stage will be constructed as part of the Sony booth, allowing visitors who are checking out the company's products to see the set where the shows will be taped.
"Jeopardy! has embraced all of the latest technologies, including the Internet, mobile platforms and HD," said executive producer Harry Friedman, "which will make it especially exciting to produce the shows from CES."
"We are absolutely thrilled that Jeopardy! will bring the excitement of the world's best known television quiz show to the 2009 International CES," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association, producer of the International CES. "Hosting Jeopardy! on the floor of the world's largest consumer electronics trade show demonstrates the excitement of marrying content and technology. I am particularly pleased to see the expanded presence of Sony Pictures Television next year, further confirmation that the International CES is the place to be for content."
Both Jeopardy! and sister program Wheel of Fortune made television history in 2006 when they became the first syndicated series to broadcast in high- definition.
Jeopardy! can be seen on more than 200 stations across the country and is produced by Sony Pictures Television. The show is distributed domestically and internationally by CBS Television Distribution, a unit of CBS Corp.
