(SEMA BOOTH # 10813) Sony is expanding its mobile audio lineup with two amplifiers, two lines of subwoofers and a new line of speakers here at the Specialty Equipment Market Association's (SEMA) annual trade show.

Powerful Amps

Providing explosive power and sound, Sony's new XM-ZZR3301 and XM-ZR704 amps complement any car audio system.

The sleekly designed XM-ZZR3301 Mono Class-D amplifier drives power at low frequencies, making it ideal for subwoofer connections. Rated power is 330 x 1 at 4-Ohms and 600W x 1 at 2-Ohms, while the maximum power output is 1,100 watts.

The versatile XM-ZR704 amp is a multi-channel amplifier with the ability to run four, three or two channel operation. To enhance audio performance, it features variable high and low pass filters on both front and rear inputs. Additionally, the amp has a maximum power output of 700 watts, plus rated power of 70W x 4 at 4-Ohms, 80W x 4 at 2-Ohms, and 160W x 2 at 4-Ohms.

Both amps feature Bass Boost from 0-10dB at 40 Hz. The top-of-the-line XM-ZZR3301 model will be available this January for about $200. The XM-ZR704 unit will also be available in January for about $180.

Explosive Sounding Subs

To drive solid and low frequency bass, Sony is introducing two new subwoofer lines. The new design offers 10, 12, and 15-inch 4-Ohm single voice coil subwoofers, as well as 10 and 12-inch 4-Ohm dual voice coil (DVC) models.

The single voice coil XS-L106P5 10-inch model has a peak power of 1,200 watts (330 watts RMS). The 12-inch XS-L126P5 tops out at 1,300 watts (380 watts RMS), and the 15-inch XS-L156P5 at 1,500 watts (450 watts RMS).

The DVC models feature dual 4-Ohm voice coils for greater flexibility in wiring your sound system. Offered in 10 and 12-inch sizes, these subs are an ideal complement to any high performance amplifier. The 10-inch XS-LD106P5 sub has a peak power of 1,300 watts (350 watts RMS), while the 12-inch XS-LD126P5 has 1,500 watts peak power (400 watts RMS).

Sony's new subwoofers feature a rigid new P5 (pentagonal shaped polypropylene) design and gold plated 5-way binding posts. The composite woven cone is mica reinforced glass fiber with the Xplod logo laser etched into the capless design.

The single voice coil XS-L106P5, XS-L126P5 and XS-L156P5 units will be offered for about $90, $110 and $170, respectively. The dual voice coil XS-LD106P5 sub will be priced at about $110, and the XS-LD126P5 model around $130. All will be available in January.

Superior Speakers

Sony has also introduced its 2009 GT series speakers. Featuring an innovative design and dynamic sound quality, the GT series offer a practical solution for replacing factory speakers.

The new series of speakers feature a highly oriented polyolefine (HOP), in addition to an aramid fiber composite woofer to produce rich and solid bass. Because of its strength and light weight, aramid fiber is often used to make bulletproof vests. The polyethylen naphtalate (PEN) midrange helps to drive explosive, clear mids and highs.

The new GT series speakers will be available in January, with power and pricing as follows:

  -- XS-GT6935A - 300 watts peak power (60 watts RMS), $80
  -- XS-GT1625A - 190 watts peak power (40 watts RMS), $70
  -- XS-GT1325A - 150 watts peak power (35 watts RMS), $60
  -- XS-GT5725A - 190 watts peak power (35 watts RMS), $60
