Charlie Wilson's 'Uncle Charlie' Debuts No. 1 on R&B Albums Chart

Wilson Enters No. 2 On Pop Albums Chart As Previous Solo Album Achieves Gold Certification

Acclaimed R&B solo singer/songwriter Charlie Wilson tops the charts with his newest offering, Uncle Charlie. This week, Wilson's album debuts at No. 1 on the R&B Albums chart, and enters at No. 2 on the Pop Albums chart. These are his highest ranking debuts on both charts as a solo artist and front-man for the legendary Gap Band.

This chart-topping week comes as the singer's first solo album on Jive Records, Charlie, Last Name Wilson, receives gold-certification from the RIAA. The album's lead single "There Goes My Baby" is currently among the Top 5 most played songs at the Urban Adult Contemporary radio format, and the accompanying video will debut March 2nd as a featured spotlight on Yahoo's main music page.

Additionally, Uncle Charlie is garnering rave reviews: USA Today states, "[Wilson's] influence on artists like guest stars Snoop Dogg, Jamie Foxx and T-Pain is evident... He sounds as fresh as ever without sacrificing his signature sound." Associated Press adds, "[On] his exceptional new album -- he sounds better than ever...Wilson is the coolest R&B uncle in the game..."

The new album features all-star collaborations with Snoop Dogg and T-Pain and production work by the Grammy-nominated duo the Underdogs. The album title, Uncle Charlie, refers to Wilson's status as the "de facto father of new jack swing" and his influence over some of today's top musicians and singers. Wilson is considered one of the greatest and most distinctive voices in R&B. Classic hit singles such as "Outstanding" and "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" are among the most sampled tunes by contemporary Rap and R&B artists.

Charlie Wilson is currently completing a special tour for U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Kuwait. In March, he will join an all-star cast that includes Robin Givens for a national tour of the gospel musical, Save Me From My Secrets.
