Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) today announced the release of Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier™ available exclusively for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) go and PlayStation®2 systems. Developed by High Impact Games, Jak and Daxter make their PSP system debut in an all-new action adventure that picks up their story where the original trilogy ended. Featuring trademark Jak and Daxter platforming, intense sky battles and new customization features, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier offers action-packed gameplay that both hardcore and casual gamers alike will enjoy this holiday.
"We are excited to further expand our PSP holiday line-up with one of SCEA's most beloved duos, Jak and Daxter, coming to the PSP for the first time this fall," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President, Product Marketing, SCEA. "Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier leverages the full functionality of the PSP giving fans a high-quality console experience on the go. With classic Jak and Daxter platforming, rich visual graphics and action-packed adventures, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier offers fun and immersive gameplay that fans of all ages are sure to enjoy."
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier takes place following the events of Jak 3® as Jak and Daxter seek to discover the cause behind the sudden disappearance of Eco on their planet. The duo travel to the edge of the world in search of the ancient Precursor machinery that could help reverse their planet's decline. Jak and Daxter discover along the way that they're not the only interested factions out on the Brink. As the two race against the clock to save their planet, they find themselves immersed in a war far bigger than they could have ever imagined.
Air combat plays a large role in Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, comprising nearly 40-percent of the game. As Jak and Daxter journey to the edge of the brink they are faced with floating islands and sky-faring pirates that serve to threaten their existence. As Jak, players will be given control over five different jets, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, which can be customized and enhanced. The flying airbase of a pirate named Phoenix serves as the virtual hangar for Jak's ships. In the virtual hangar players can purchase upgrades using 'scrap metal' collected during missions to improve the turn rates and targeting systems on their ships. Once the ship customization process is complete, players can immediately take off on their next mission.
Daxter plays a more prominent role in Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. Featuring all new Daxter gameplay, players will explore his 'dark side' as he journeys through the Aeropa sewers in search of dark eco crystals. Transformed into a dark eco-mutated creature, players will be given the opportunity to wreak some destruction of their own in this level devoted to the furry ottsel. Daxter can be used for more than just destruction, however. A new 'Daxter-Jacking' feature lets players launch Daxter onto enemy planes during flight missions to help reduce enemies and produce parts that will help repair Jak's planes.
The independent Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has rated Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier "E10+". For more information about the ESRB, visit www.esrb.org.
