LOS ANGELES, July 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Pentatonix, the season 3 winners of the NBC a cappella singing competition series, THE SING-OFF, make a very impressive debut on the Billboard album charts. The group's freshman EP, entitled "PTX Volume 1," sells nearly 20,000 units in its first week and lands at #14 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart. The EP also ranks #2 among Independent Albums and #5 among Digital Albums. Additionally, the EP becomes the highest charting record ever released by indie label, Madison Gate Records, breaking Billboard's top 15 albums for the first time.
Released on June 26th, "PTX Volume 1" quickly climbed the album charts, reaching #14 on the Billboard Top 200 in its first week. The EP, which features a cappella covers of some of pop music's biggest hits like "Starships" (Nicki Minaj) and "Love You Long Time" (Jazmine Sullivan) as well as two original tracks "The Baddest Girl" and "Show You How To Love," has received praise from fans who have given it a 5 star rating on iTunes.
"When we heard the news, we were all in shock. All five of us have dreamt about making the Billboard charts as an a cappella group, and this shows us that our a cappella music can be a part of the mainstream. We thank all the devoted fans who have turned their ears to our music!" said Pentatonix.
The EP is also Madison Gate Records' first entry into the Billboard top 15. Formed in 2010 as Sony Pictures Entertainment's in-house record label, Madison Gate Records offers a studio alternative to a traditional record label.
