SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Forget about fancy algorithms and robotic playlists. Beginning today, you can sign-up for a public beta of FUZZ, a free Internet radio service built on the only equation that works: people + music. Featuring curated music stations created by real people, the FUZZ public beta will be available only in the United States at http://fuzz.com.

"The most compelling music recommendations are when they come from actual people," said Jeff Yasuda, CEO and Founder of FUZZ. "On FUZZ, you can find trusted sources for great music from DJs within the community, whose tastes match your own."

FUZZ offers a powerful alternative to the current crop of Internet radio services that rely on technology to populate playlists. While other services are focused solely on finding you the right music, FUZZ is also about finding you the right people who share your music tastes. Listeners can enjoy a wide variety of existing stations created by fellow music fans, ranging from "Indie Madness" and "90s Hip Hop" to "Ear Pounding Bass" and "Rare R&B." Since everyone can be a DJ on FUZZ, listeners can also take a more active role by creating and sharing their own stations using songs from their personal collections. FUZZ then taps into the crowd by aggregating user feedback to bring the best stations to the top.

FUZZ's music stations are powered by real people, but supported by the world's leading source of music metadata. FUZZ taps the Gracenote® global media database and music recognition technology to provide track, artist and genre information, making it easier for FUZZ users to discover and enjoy stations.

"FUZZ gives all of us music fans a chance to finally take on the role of DJ and program stations the way we want them to sound," said Stephen White, President of Gracenote. "Gracenote has served as the backbone for some of the world's top music services and we look forward to working with the FUZZ team to help shape the way their listeners interact with, discover and enjoy music."

FUZZ launched a private beta earlier this year, and now boasts thousands of hand-crafted stations. The company's founders include internet music pioneers Jeff Yasuda and Brian Venneman of the popular Blip.fm streaming music service. The executive chairman of FUZZ is former MTV President Mika Salmi and the FUZZ Advisory Board includes former and current executives from Billboard, Clear Channel, Yahoo Music, SESAC, RealNetworks and Rhapsody.
