CHICAGO, Nov. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Electronics' Medical Systems Division is sponsoring the renowned Wills Eye Institute's "Meet the Experts" panel, November 10-11 at this year's American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting at Chicago's McCormick Place.

The two-day series of presentations, open to all AAO attendees, brings together 12 Wills Eye ophthalmologists, who will each deliver 15-minute talks on topics related to their specialty. The sessions will be held at the Wills Eye booth, #2635.

"Ophthalmology is changing rapidly, with so much that physicians need to be aware of, even beyond their own specialty," said Jack Scully, Director of Media Technology Services, Wills Eye Institute. "From the newest procedures to the latest developments in technology to patient relations, ophthalmologists need a diverse skill set and a broad level of knowledge about many topics. That's what this series is intended to provide, allowing attendees to walk away with valuable information they can put to use in their everyday practice."

Sony's sponsorship of these sessions continues its collaborations with Wills Eye Institute. The hospital is using a combination of Sony's HVO-1000MD recorder and PMW-10MD HD camera to form a unique capture and recording system. These products are helping Wills Eye use state-of-the-art technology to complement its faculty's expertise, help train residents and enhance teaching and presentation techniques -- both in the operating room and for reviewing procedures afterward. This shared vision of technology and medicine between the two organizations made this event sponsorship a mutually beneficial opportunity. Sony is also providing its LCD display products for use during the two-day event.

"Wills Eye is known for the highest standards of ophthalmic practice and training standards," said Anne Bondulich, marketing manager at Sony Electronics' Medical Systems Division. "They understand the importance of technology to keep its educational capabilities at the highest level, and working with them has been great. We're proud to join with them at AAO to help deliver this important series of presentations."
