BERLIN, Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- WiMP has selected Gracenote MusicID® to power the music recognition feature in its iPhone and iPad Apps, available today in Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The addition of Gracenote MusicID makes it easy for WiMP subscribers to identify a track by simply holding their phone to wherever music is playing. From there, they can start a playlist or share with friends on Twitter and Facebook.
The music experts at Gracenote have analyzed and created metadata describing almost every album and song on the planet. Gracenote data is combined with Gracenote MusicID recognition technology to make it possible for the WiMP App to identify songs by simply "listening" to a few seconds of the track and matching it to its unique audio fingerprint in the Gracenote database.
"We believe music identification should be a standard feature in any music application. Popular streaming music services can no longer solely rely on branded standalone music recognition Apps to drive discovery for their platforms," said John Sierotko, senior vice president of sales at Gracenote. "By integrating music recognition directly into their iPhone and iPad Apps, WiMP is ensuring music fans can identify and connect with artists and songs in the WiMP catalog, whenever and wherever they want."
WiMP is an ad-free, music streaming service available in Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. With more than 350,000 paid subscribers and millions of songs in its catalog, WiMP focuses on helping fans find new music and old favorites through recommendations, Top 20 lists and featured artists. The addition of a mobile App extends the WiMP music experience to mobile devices, allowing subscribers to enjoy songs anywhere they go.
