NEW YORK, April 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Kat Edmonson has signed a worldwide deal with Sony Masterworks. The label will launch her album Way Down Low on the OKeh/Masterworks imprint, coinciding with dates this spring and summer in Europe.

Edmonson's self-released, Kickstarter-funded album Way Down Low continues to prove a fan favorite in the States debuting at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart upon its release and hitting that high mark several times again in 2013. Edmonson performed on Austin City Limits in January and will make her Prairie Home Companion debut on April 20. She has established herself as a successful headliner selling out shows at The Paramount in Austin, New York's Joe's Pub and Boston's Sculler's. She is also a sought-after opener, touring with Chris Isaak and Gary Clark Jr. Way Down Low was featured on several major year-end "Best of 2012" lists including Downbeat Magazine, WNYC Soundcheck's "Best Live Performances" and Daytrotter's "Best Sessions of 2012."

Most recently, Edmonson became one of the faces of the makeup brand bareMinerals, performing across the country as part of their Force of Beauty campaign, for which she also composed the original song "Bottom Of Your Heart."

On Way Down Low, Edmonson makes her songwriting and producing debut. The album was recorded at historic Avatar Studios and The Capitol Studios with Grammy-winning producer/engineer Al Schmitt (Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke) and input from legendary producer, the late Phil Ramone (Paul Simon, Billy Joel). Kat performs with noted fan Lyle Lovett on "Long Way Home," which Entertainment Weekly calls "an airy country duet."

A Texas native, Edmonson grew up in Houston with a mother who introduced her to the Great American Songbook. Determined to be a singer, Kat became a regular at the Elephant Room, building a following and making musical connections that energized her career. Her self-released 2009 debut album Take To the Sky hit the Top 20 on Billboard's Jazz Chart, and soon found herself playing alongside Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett. A musical kinship with Lovett led to a duet on the holiday classic "Baby, It's Cold Outside" which the pair performed on tour and on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

"I couldn't be happier to welcome Kat into the Sony Masterworks family. She is a singular and soulful voice, a charismatic performer, and a wise songwriter whose already formidable talents will blossom even further in the future," says Chuck Mitchell, Senior Vice President, Sony Masterworks. "As marvelous as Way Down Low is, we can't wait to hear what she does next!"
