NEW YORK, June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, is proud to honor Johnny Cash--the steadfast and uncompromising Man in Black, a performer who forever changed the shape and sound of American pop and country music -- as the label's Artist of the Month for June 2013.

In the tenth anniversary year of his passing (on September 12, 2003), the artist is being honored by the United States Postal Service with the Johnny Cash Limited Edition Forever® Stamp.  On June 5, the USPS held a first-day-of-issuance event at Nashville's fabled Ryman Auditorium with guest appearances by John Carter Cash, Larry Gatlin, Jamey Johnson, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Roys, Marty Stuart, Randy Travis and others.

Designed by art director Greg Breeding, the Johnny Cash Forever Stamp features a photograph taken by Frank Bez during the photo session for Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash, his Number One Country chart-topping Columbia Records album from 1963.   The stamp is part of the U.S. Postal Service's Music Icon series and is available for purchase at local Post Offices and at usps.com/stamps.

On Tuesday, August 13, LIFE and Sony Music Entertainment will launch the LIFE Unseen/LIFE Unheard series with the release of LIFE Unseen: Johnny Cash, a new biography packed with rare and previously-unseen photos from the SME archives, and LIFE Unheard: Johnny Cash, a newly-curated CD featuring a dozen rare tracks from throughout Cash's storied career, from solo acoustic recordings cut at the House of Cash studio in Nashville to raucous live concerts taped at the Newport Folk Festival, the White House and more. LIFE Unheard: Johnny Cash also includes two previously unreleased tracks: a rollicking studio version of "Ben Dewberry's Final Run," originally made famous by Jimmie Rodgers, and "Movin' Up," recorded for Cash's 1981 made-for-TV movie, The Pride of Jesse Hallam."

2013 has seen the opening of the Johnny Cash Museum in Nashville as well as the broadcast premiere in May of "Ring of Fire," the June Carter Cash biopic, airing on Lifetime.

Well-steeped and new fans alike are invited to check out the Man in Black and his music as Legacy Recording's June Artist of the Month.
