Masterworks Broadway Congratulates Kinky Boots On Its Six Tony Awards Including Best Musical And Best Original Score

NEW YORK, June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- MASTERWORKS BROADWAY congratulates long-time Sony Music artist Cyndi Lauper and the cast and crew of Kinky Boots for their six Tony Awards, including the coveted categories of Best Musical and Best Original Score. As the sole composer and lyricist, Lauper became the first solo female artist to win a Tony for Best Original Score. Kinky Boots also took home Best Actor in a Musical for Billy Porter's performance, along with Best Choreography (Jerry Mitchell), Best Orchestration (Stephen Oremus) and Best Sound Design (John Shivers).

In more good news, the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Kinky Boots debuted at #1 on the Billboard's Top Broadway Albums Chart and at #51 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart. This is the highest charting Broadway cast recording in over two years, since The Book Of Mormon. The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Kinky Boots is produced by Cyndi Lauper, Stephen Oremus, William Wittman and Sammy James, Jr.

Kinky Boots opened on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013 to rave reviews.  USA Today called it "a sizzling, high-spirited new musical that's bound to put cheer in your heart!"  Broadway's new high-heeled hit has also been chosen as the critic's pick by The New York Times, New York magazine and Time Out New York, as well as Entertainment Weekly's "Must List," and has won the Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical.

Additionally, Cyndi Lauper starts her She's So Unusual 30^th Anniversary concert tour tonight in San Diego, CA.  Legacy Recordings will also release the 30th Anniversary Legacy Edition of She's So Unusual, Lauper's debut solo album (nearly thirty-years-to-the-day from record's original release on October 14, 1983) on October 15, 2013.
