CULVER CITY, Calif., Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- getTV pays tribute to film legend Mickey Rooney with a special block every Thursday in September, at 7 p.m. ET. The retrospective highlights Rooney's impressive range in a lineup featuring musicals SOUND OFF and ALL ASHORE (September 4); crime tales HE'S A COCKEYED WONDER and DRIVE A CROOKED ROAD (September 11); military comedies EVERYTHING'S DUCKY, with Buddy Hackett, and OPERATION MAD BALL, with Jack Lemmon (September 18); and BLIND DATE and THE COMIC, with Dick Van Dyke (September 25). The month kicks off with an eight-film marathon, on Monday, September 1, at 1 p.m. ET.
Spend an evening with one of cinema's most popular comedians, Peter Sellers, in two of his finest films on Friday, September 12, at 7 p.m. ET. The night of laughs begins with Sellers as a downtrodden librarian tempted by a beautiful designer in ONLY TWO CAN PLAY; then, the tiny land of Grand Fenwick declares war on the U.S. in the celebrated satire THE MOUSE THAT ROARED, starring Sellers as Grand Duchess Gloriana, Prime Minister Rupert Mountjoy, and General Tully Bascombe, respectively.
getTV presents five films starring Hollywood's best and brightest in the Silver Screen Favorites block, Sundays at 7 p.m. ET. James Caan and Billy Dee Williams star in the acclaimed gridiron drama BRIAN'S SONG (September 7); Lynn Redgrave finds her way through swinging '60s London in the Oscar®-nominated GEORGY GIRL (September 14); the Adamson family cares for a lioness and her cubs in the two-time Oscar®-winner BORN FREE and LIVING FREE (September 21); and a boxer taken before his time comes back as a businessman in the Oscar®-winning fantasy HERE COMES MR. JORDAN (September 28), starring Robert Montgomery.
Then, head back to the Golden Age of the Old West, as getTV puts the spotlight on Western icon Tim McCoy, every Saturday in September at High Noon. The epic eight-film lineup features some of the gunslinger's most classic adventures, including SHOTGUN PASS (September 6); TEXAS CYCLONE (September 13); FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE (September 20); THE PRESCOTT KID (September 27), and many more.
