"When a high profile person like Charlie has the courage to come forward and open up about something as personal their HIV status, we have a rare teachable moment to educate people on the exact nature of HIV, the daily life of a person living with HIV, as well as treatment and prevention," said Mehmet Oz, M.D., host, The Dr. Oz Show.  "Charlie's uphill battle extends beyond HIV into other areas, such as his battle with drugs and alcohol. Simply bringing the viewer into his day to day struggles provide a more accurate picture of the complex circumstances and solutions faced by people living with HIV."

In addition to dissecting the emotional epicenter of Sheen's experience, we follow Sheen as he visits some of the leading researchers in the field of HIV treatment.  While controversial, some researchers Sheen visits explain the principles of how we may finally reach a cure as well as why a cure remains elusive.

"With conventional medicine believing a cure is one day possible, various approaches to eliminating the virus are being researched all over the world.  Each hold the possibility that we may one day live in a world free of HIV, yet none have been deployed on a scale large enough to evaluate their effectiveness," said Dr. Oz.  "With the media scrutiny on Charlie Sheen's life and health, a perfect nexus exists for us to re-engage our national conversation."
